Type 1 diabetics, families with diabetic children, and handlers with hypoglycemic unawareness or nocturnal monitoring challenges.
Alert Training
Scent discrimination using breath and skin samples, persistent alert behaviours, and reliable night-time wake-up signals.
Task Scope
High/low glucose alerts, fetching a testing kit or a named person, and public access neutrality for school or workplace environments.

The Owner-Trainer PSD Track

A comprehensive, multi-month program designed for handlers who want to train their own dog under expert behavioural supervision.

Duration
6 to 24 months, depending on the dog's starting age and aptitude.
Curriculum Pillars
Advanced impulse control, public access neutrality, and customized disability mitigation.
Specific Task Conditioning
Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT), Tactile Interruption (nudging/pawing to break anxiety loops), and creating physical safety barriers in crowds.
Includes
Complete training log templates, direct coaching, final public safety evaluation, and formal body corporate certification letters upon graduation.

Service 04 · MEDICAL RESPONSE TRACK · CUSTOM TASKS

Seizure Response Dog Training

A focused programme that teaches dogs to respond safely and reliably when a seizure occurs, providing physical assistance, emergency signalling, and post-seizure comfort.

Best For
People living with epilepsy or seizure disorders, families seeking an added safety layer, and handlers who need reliable public-access support.
Response Tasks
Alert barking at seizure onset, fetching help or pressing an emergency button, deep pressure therapy, tactile stimulation, and protecting the handler from injury.
Post-Seizure Support
Retrieving a phone, medication or food, acting as a brace to help the handler stand, and providing continued comfort during recovery.
Important Note
Kinnear Dog Training Seizure Response Dogs are not trained to predict seizure activity before it happens. Some dogs may develop pre-warning ability over time, but this is not guaranteed or consistently reliable.

Service 05 · FACILITY-BASED & MOBILE THERAPY DOGS

Therapy Dog & Fur-Therapist Programme

The Fur-Therapist programme supports children and adults emotionally, mentally and physically by developing a unique bond with specially trained dogs. We train dogs to work alongside counsellors and mental health professionals, or to become certified mobile therapy teams visiting facilities across South Africa.

Best For
Counsellors, psychologists, schools, frail-care facilities, and handlers seeking certified mobile therapy dog work.
Certification Requirements
Canine Good Citizen Bronze Award, an in-situ facility suitability test, and three special comfort skills.
Comfort Skills
Custom comfort behaviours tailored to the facility or client group, including deep pressure engagement, gentle interaction cues, and environmental neutrality.
Placement Settings
Psychiatric and psychology centres, trauma centres, court houses, university campuses, schools, corporate offices, assisted living and nursing homes, and children's care homes.
